LEAD
LEAD is a yearlong program that is designed to give you skills that are going to set you up to succeed in your young adult years. It will go over basic life skills such as budgeting, cleaning, basic household and vehicle maintenance, how to cook/ meal plan for a household, first aid, and basic stockmanship.
In addition to learning those basic skills there are going to be more specialized tracks, these are the offered electives:
Horsemanship, Mechanics, Construction, Administration, Cooking and Kitchen Management, Program/Hospitality

Daily Schedule
You will be deepening your relationship with Christ and your knowledge of the scriptures. You will be learning how to do personal devotions and lead a devotional for a group. There will also be Bible studies we will do throughout the year. This may include online courses from Bible colleges, guest speakers coming to teach, a deep dive into a book of the Bible, or
watching a film series such as The Chosen.
You will get to work alongside the CSR staff in the barn, kitchen, program and maintenance as they serve groups in the off season. When there is not a group here, this is what a typical day-to-day schedule looks like:

Horsemanship
The purpose of this elective is to develop and strengthen foundational horsemanship skills. Students will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks such as catching, saddling, and bridling horses, as well as performing basic riding skills. There will also be an expectation of managing trail rides and practicing effective stockmanship.
Once these foundational skills have been successfully demonstrated, students will have the opportunity to explore specialized areas of horsemanship. These may include disciplines such as rodeo events, roping, or colt starting, allowing for further skill development based on individual interest.
Mechanics/Construction
General Maintenance Skills Elective
The purpose of this elective is to develop and strengthen foundational maintenance and practical life skills across mechanical, household, and property care areas. Students will have the opportunity to learn and safely demonstrate proficiency in tasks such as basic vehicle maintenance, safely operating hand and power tools, completing basic household repairs. Once these foundational skills have been successfully demonstrated, students will have the opportunity to further develop their skills in either a mechanics or construction based elective.
The Mechanics Elective will go more in depth in how vehicles and engines work. Covering topics such as starting systems, fuel systems, basic ignition system overview, engine operation, cooling system, suspension/steering, and much more.
The Construction Elective will go more in depth on topics such as plumbing, electrical, and framing. This elective will provide students with the opportunity to take part in an onsite construction project.
Administration
In LEAD you will have the opportunity to develop your administrative skills such as communication by phone and email, using tools like Excel to manage campers, program and financial information, scheduling and prioritizing tasks, customer service, and the importance of the small details.
Cooking and Kitchen Management
The kitchen essentials will cover basics for everyone such as food and knife safety, dishwashing and keeping a kitchen clean, planning and cooking well rounded meals for a household, and reducing waste. If you choose to go more in depth with the kitchen track, we will cover baking, making soups and sauces from scratch, cooking kitchen staples and meat well, along with kitchen management from a camp perspective.
Program and Hospitality
The program and hospitality elective will cover basics for everyone such as safety in each activity, facilitating events and activities, and preparing the facility for a group. If a student chooses to go further in depth with the program route they will be learning skills such as greeting groups, proper communication between the group and facility staff, planning schedules, and equipment maintenance. The elective will also be catered to each student and their interests, strengths, and weaknesses.
By the end of this year a participant will be able to confidently plan an event, speak in front of a crowd comfortably, and be a great host to one of the many groups that come to CSR each year.
